Approach

The HCRDA convened its 2024 Annual General Meeting, during which members in attendance reviewed the achievements of the 2023 strategy. The HCRDA presented the 2024 strategy and budget, which were subsequently endorsed by its members.

We look forward to executing this strategy to support achieve our vision to advance Hammarsdale and Cato Ridge as a desirable place to invest, work and live, thereby supporting growth, employment and transformation.

The HCRDA strategy or Theory of Change applies to each of its current five workstreams. Meaningful, sustainable impact is delivered within a considered, structured framework, as detailed below. It is based on a collaborative approach: inter-firm and between firms, government and the community.

Work

Objective: Support member firms’ competitiveness and enterprise development

Core programme activities include: Generating awareness of the Local Economic Development opportunities, capabilities and shortcomings, identifying and facilitating cooperation opportunities between firms and stakeholders.

Targeted project activities include: Undertaking SMME, unemployed and cooperative training and upgrading activities to support alignment with established firms’ requirements.

Human Resource

Objective: Support improved human resources development to achieve an increase in human potential realisation and member firms’ productivity

Core programme activities include: Identification and sharing of best practices in Human Resource Management, supporting increased collaboration with local education institutions.

Targeted project activities are: Support to schools and high potential learners and coordination of joint training activities between firms.

Infrastructure

Objective: Address infrastructure deficits to make the area a better place to work and live

Core programme activities include: Proactive engagement with relevant state entities, specifically eThekwini Municipality, to address infrastructure challenges.

Targeted project activities are: Private sector support to upgrade and maintain infrastructure.

Safety

Objective: Address safety deficits to make the area a safer place to work and live

Core programme activities include: Improved intelligence gathering and crime prevention by coordinating increased collaboration between the South African Police Service, firms, the private security sector and the community.

Targeted project activities are: Technology led crime prevention investments.

Environment

Objective: Support member firms with efficient resource utilisation and environmental conservation and rehabilitation 

Core programme activities include: Monitor and report on environmental degradation and conservation activities.

Targeted project activities are: Alien vegetation; waste; litter removal, water conservation and soil erosion management delivered by local black-owned contractors.
